In preparation for the lap band surgery (my surgery date is 12/29), my surgeon has ordered me to go on a 3-week liquid fast starting on December 8th.
During that time, and then permanently post-surgery, I can’t have anything carbonated to drink. Period. I understand that carbonated drinks can cause the band to slip, which is devoutly not to be desired. Before I got my info packet with all the dates and instructions, I was drinking a LOT of Coke. Not Diet Coke, but regular old HFCS-sweetened Coke. So I quit. I switched to teas sweetened with Splenda or stevia. With that change alone, I’ve managed to lose 3 pounds.
But I have also started cutting back on the amount of food I eat total, as well as cutting way back on the junk food. I guess I just don’t want the first few days of the protein fast to whip my butt. I’ve started noticing that whenever I eat anything, I get really sick at my stomach and have to run to the bathroom. Logically I know I’m not getting sick at what I just ate–things take a while to move through my system–but apparently I’ve got the routine down pat that the previous food I ate is hitting my digestive system right when I eat something else. I am, after all, a creature of habit when it comes to my meals.
It’s really unpleasant. I’m always feeling queasy, and I have to spend way too much time in the bathroom. I’m hoping that I just have myself psyched up for the liquid fast and that once I actually start it my poor tummy will settle down. 😦
