Take Up A Serious Hobby

You’re an intellectual and you know how you use your mind, so you’d rather not take breaks from it. You can always think out a situation and know what needs to be done. The only thing that frustrates you is not being valued.

Our Potentially Ridiculous Hobby Suggestion For You:

Why is it some days I have so much to blather on about that I do 3 or 4 posts in a day, and then I go for several days without saying anything? Well, it’s not because nothing has happened. But something has happened that I don’t want to blog about. I guess it’s my own version of Chicory’s “the unbloggable.” Suffice it to say that it’s painful and not fun and I wish things had turned out differently. But no one gets all of their wishes fulfilled, and I’m no exception. I have no desire to cause myself or anyone else any further trauma, so I won’t be talking about it or blogging about it.

Moving on.

Speaking of wish fulfillment, I’ve finally decided on my Halloween costume. I’m going to be a fairy goth mother. Whaddaya think? I’ll dress all in black, wear either my blue or hot pink wig, wear lots of black eye make-up & black lipstick. I don’t have any fairy wings, but I can make some tonight with wire coat hangers and some nylons. It’ll be a hoot.

If you’re having trouble coming up with a costume, I heartily recommend the Costume Idea Zone. There are 66 pages of ideas, most of which involve things you already have at home or can easily pick up.  Some of them are a little lame, but some are also extremely fun and creative.

Before the movie The Dark is Rising: The Seeker came out, I was really eagerly looking forward to it, having been a lifelong fan of Susan Cooper’s The Dark is Rising series. And Joe and I went to see the movie with great anticipation. Joe loved it. I hated it. Not because it was bad in and of itself; I couldn’t judge that because I was so incredibly disappointed in what they did to a really good book. So I put it in my Netflix queue recently, thinking I’d like to watch it again now that I know how they butchered the book, to see if it is an okay movie if I can make myself forget about the book. I started watching it last night and fell asleep before it got to the half-way mark. From what little I saw, though, I think I’ll like it better this time around. I just have to keep telling myself that it has only the faintest distant relationship to the book, like a third cousin 57 times removed. I do dearly love Christopher Eccleston, and he plays the Big Bad, so yummy creepiness there.

I also have at home White Noise 2.  I didn’t care all that much for the first movie, but this one is apparently a stand-alone sequel (so why’d they call it White Noise 2? Enquiring minds want to know.) starring Nathan Filion. And he is one fine-looking man. He’s also a really good actor (compare Caleb (from Buffy Season 7) with Mal (Firefly) (and I know I need to see Doctor Horrible and I shall but I haven’t yet). Very tastealicious.

And did I mention the new song I have for Scout? I know I’ve talked about the different songs I sing to my dogs, with my made-up lyrics to already existing music. And I know I’ve told you how I call him “Buttboy” and he answers to that name. So somehow it all came together in a lovely little song that I sing to the old Batman TV series theme music. “Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-Buttboy!” He loves it. If I sing it while he’s hyper, he’ll lie on his back and madly wave his paws at me, and as soon as the song ends he jumps up and tears through the house. And if I sing it while he’s less hyper, he’ll lie on his back and lazily wave his paws at me, and kiss me three time when it’s done. He’s a most cute little stinker boy. I also call him Rocket Dog and Destructo-Dog, but the only names he really answers to are Scout and Buttboy. If he’s standing on the floor wagging his tail, you can shake your butt back and forth, and he’ll start wagging his little butt. So freakin’ cute!!!!

This morning the incomparable Izzybella brought me a coke and a hug and a couple of missionaries who gave me a most appreciated blessing. And Jehara and I went to the library at lunch, and then I finished up the rest of that awesome mac & cheese Izzy and I made last Sunday.  I was hoping to go see a movie tonight with my honey, since he’s in town, but since I’ll be making wings and a magic wand, I guess we’ll just watch something from Netflix. Maybe we’ll get out to a movie this weekend, since I feel quite sure he’ll be off again next week.
