Archive for July 1st, 2007

Well, it is, even if Stevie Ray Vaughn did sing about it before I just typed that!

Usually June here is hot and sort of sticky. Then we get to July, and it’s just plain hot. August, more of the same. September, ditto. It starts cooling off, normally, in October. That’s when it might start raining. The first rain of every autumn is typically my favourite. I sit out on the stoop by the front door and watch it rain, and smell that wonderful aroma and enjoy every moment of it.

I’m not so sure I’ll be doing that this September. Because it’s been raining for two months solid. Our back yard is so flooded that it was almost over the foundation of our house.  Joe had to dig a trench on the side yard to get the water to the street in the front. It’s bad. We’re getting so much rain now that it’s just insane. I honestly don’t remember a summer like this in all the summers I’ve spent in the area. The forecast shows rain every day, as far as the forecast goes, with highs in the high 80s/low 90s.  Lots of rain.

Don’t get me wrong. I like rain. I wouldn’t mind living in one of those places where it rains a lot, and stays cooler like this. But I don’t like having my back yard be under water. I don’t like all the mosquitos. I don’t like the way my weather maniac husband freaks out over every little storm.  But since I don’t have the ability to change anything about the situation, I’ll just sit here and be cool and calm and listen to the storms.

Thank you for all your kind words and support when I was writing about my friend. It means a lot to me. She was a very kind and loving person, and I’ve been remembering some of the special times we shared.  I heard some more about their family today. The oldest daughter is expected to make a full recovery. She’s not talking about anything yet, which I can completely understand. And the youngest son is still in very iffy condition. I’m still feeling very much at a loss for words.

I’m nearly over this awful crud that’s had me feeling horrible for over a week. I’ll be able to be back at rehearsals and work this week, so that’s good. And I even washed some dishes and made some soup for dinner.  (1 can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained; 1 can diced tomatoes, undrained; 1 can green beans, undrained; 1 large can sliced mushrooms, undrained; 1/2 bag frozen fiesta corn mix; 1 can ranch style beans, undrained; 1 can vegetable broth—-dump everything into your crockpot, add a little Vegeta seasoning, some crushed red pepper, some cajun seasoning, and cook on low for 3-5 hours. Serve with rice if you like.)

Soup. In July. That’s so weird!!
