You know you want to. You’ll regret it if you don’t.
See, when you have one of your greatest dreams fulfilled, like becoming an actor, you want people to come see you perform, right? And if they don’t, it’s hugely disappointing. Or if you, say, get a recording contract, and make great music, but nobody buys your songs. Or if you get a book published, and only two copies sell, and one of those copies was to your best friend. (Ask me how I know. Or, well, don’t. It’s a sad little story.)
So here’s the deal. My best friend Clover’s first published book is now available in e-book form (it will be available in print on March 3rd). It’s a good book.
Now you might think that I’m just saying it’s a good book because she’s my best friend. But if you think that, then you obviously don’t know me. Because I don’t do things like that. If you give me something to read, and I think it sucks, I’ll tell you it sucks. Um, as politely as possible, but I won’t lie just to spare your feelings. If it’s got potential but needs work, I’ll tell you what I think you can do to improve it. If you work to improve it, I’ll respect you both as a person and as a writer.
Clover, since I’ve known her, has exhibited exemplary skills as a writer. She’s got incredible ideas and her flights of fancy take her all over creation. She needed to hone her technical abilities, and danged if she didn’t do it. Of all the people I’ve met over the years who have asked my honest advice, and to whom I have given it, she is the one who actually listened. She went out there and got involved with people who were interested in the same kind of literature she is; she learned about grammar; she learned about marketing herself and her writing; and she worked incessantly.
So I can honestly tell you that no one was more delighted than I when she sold this book. And I was the first person to buy it! Hooray! And now you can be the second or third. Go to The Wild Rose Press and look for Upon Eagle’s Lightby Clover Autrey (ISBN 1-60154-132-5). You won’t regret it.
What are you hanging around here for? Go! Read!
