This ‘n’ That

First of all, there’s a new theme up at the Scheherazade Project. So go check it out, get your creativity flowing, write!

Today’s been an extremely productive day, and I’ll admit to feeling a little self-satisfied.  I got a lot of work done at the office, although it would have been nice if I could have found a way to stay late today. But I can put in some extra time tomorrow and Wednesday if necessary to get caught up. The first week of every new month always just kicks me in the butt.

Last night Soleil and I got our Juarez scene rewritten, and it’s a lot better.  I’m pleased with it.  And one of the people who had been going to be involved in the show ended up having to take a break from it, so I volunteered to write the scene she had been working on (which is why I couldn’t stay late today). I had been worried about what to do, but it seems like I just sat down in front of my computer, and an idea came right away. What made me even happier about my idea was that as I was doing some online research, I found an article that involved the theme I’d decided to use with my monologue. Yay! So I think the inspiration I got there had a helping hand.

So now I’m going to sprawl on the bed for a while and zone ount until it’s time for me to go to Soleil’s. A little laziness can be a good thing.

Oh-one more thing! The Leaky Cauldron is having a contest that you might find interesting. You get to write a chapter about Harry’s next (last?) interaction with the Dursleys as it might happen in Book 7. I think the limit is 2000 words, and it would be a fun thing to imagine out.  So if you’re interested, go check it out.

Harry Potter Dreamin’ . . .

on such a muggy day!

Forgive me. I heard a clip from the Mamas and the Papas yesterday morning while watching a news story on the Summer of Love, so I’ve got California Dreamin’ on my mind. But I had the funniest dream last night!

I was a 7th-year student at Hogwarts in book 7, and I was taking a class with Harry, Draco, Ron, Hermione, and maybe Ernie, I’m not sure. And this really sinisterly gorgeous guy walks in and announes that he’s Severus Snape’s son.  He was so evil that he made Draco Malfoy look like a nice guy. He was an animagus, and turned into an acromantula even bigger than Aragog, and he started eating the people in class.  Professor McGonagall had just taught us the spell to make someone vomit (up. up! Up! UP!, and the person would upchuck on the fourth UP!), and I was underneath young Snape pointing my wand at his engorged belly screaming “UP!” at the top of my lungs. He dutifully brought forth all of the students he had eaten.

Was he expelled? Did he get detention? I don’t know, but the next thing that happened was that he attacked Dumbledore who was NOT dead in my dream (even though he is, of course).

And the whole time I was having this very interesting dream, I kept wondering who young Snape’s mother was. He was far better looking than his father, although he did have the longish black hair hanging in his face. And he was slightly sallow. But he wasn’t greasy looking and all the negative things that one associates with Severus Snape.

Okay, moving on to other subjects now:

Yesterday Soleil and I finished rewriting our scene for the Juarez show. She did some more research, and was able to find enough information about our person that we were really able to flesh it out. And we even worked in a bit of a story about someone else, and we were well pleased about it. All the drafts are due at tonight’s meeting.

LeZard joined us, and it looks like we have persuaded her to be in the show. Yay! We had dinner before that at the Spiral Diner, a vegan restaurant in Fort Worth. We started with hummus, because I am a freak for hummus, and I had the chickenless salad sandwich, which was REALLY good. Joe grumbled about it when he picked me up from Soleil’s later on. He informed me that he has no intention of stopping eating meat and he doesn’t want me to go on some kind of a cause. Oh, me. The interesting conversations we have. I actually am considering going vegetarian, and wish I could convince myself to go vegan. I’m not sure that will happen. I’m not even sure that I will successfully be able to go vegetarian, because I do like to eat meat occasionally. That doesn’t mean that I support the way the majority of the animals intended for consumption are treated and slaughtered. Not at all.  Joe agreed with me that if we do continue to eat meat, we’re going to get kosher meat. Yes, it costs more, but the animals are treated in a far more humane way and the meat will not have the contaminants that one is likely to find elsewhere.  In the meantime, though, I’ve picked up PETA’s starter kit about going vegetarian, and am immediately incorporating more meatless days into my menus.

On Saturday afternoon I spent an enjoyable few hours watching an old animated version of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.  It was done in the late 70s, I believe, and just gives me warm fuzzies. So much so, in fact, that I watched it twice in a row.  I also got Dungeons and Dragons, which put me to sleep after I laughed hysterically at the hamminess of the main antagonist. I’ll give it another try, perhaps; maybe not–maybe I’ll just watch The Illusionist and send them all back for the next round of movies.

Well, all good things must come to an end, and that sadly includes blogging today. I’ve got gobs of work that must get done. Enjoy your week!!
